Parabolic Leaf Springs is a unique innovation by Terrain Tamer. Parabolic leaf springs consist of less blades in the pack that are thick in the middle and tapered to the ends. The blades only touch in the middel when unladen and will only start resting on the next one as weight is added. This gives a much softer and smoother ride as well as adding to the load bearing capacity. With the springs not touching there is less friction between the blades, which adds to the comfort of the ride. Terrain Tamer also puts special anti friction pads on the ends of the lower blades to keep friction to a minimum. Terrain Tamer is the only company that does parabolic springs. A typical Terrain Tamer parabolic leaf spring pack with a weight rating of 300 to 500 kgs constant load above standard vehicle weight consists of 3 leafs and the 500 to 700kg constant load springs consists of 4 leafs.
If you do upgrade the OE leafs on your vehicle to parabolics you need to upgrade the shocks as well because parabolics lift the vehicle. Parabolics can be used with other brands of shocks as long as it’s shocks that are meant to used with a lifted suspension. We have installed parabolics on vehicles with Tough Dog, Iron man and OME shocks and it works very well if you are looking at a hybrid solution.
